Trick or Treat

for Our Troops!

Halloween is right around the corner! I have to admit; it's one of my favorite holidays. In fact, my team and I get dressed up every year and celebrate in style! I've been Captain Jack Sparrow, a member of the US Cycling team . . . and this year? You'll have to stop by my office and find out.

But I have to admit it's even more fun watching my kids put together their costumes and gather with their friends for a night of fun and good frights. It's just a great time.

Then there's the candy.

As a Dad, I know that kids love candy and they're going to eat it now and again. As a dentist, I look at that bag of Halloween loot and I see tooth decay and cavities. After all, the kids come home with a lot of candy!

They bring home so much, in fact, that we often end up throwing some out. It seemed wasteful, so we thought of other options. And we came up with a great one.

This year, we're doing something different that will make a difference to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Now until November 15, 2009, we're collecting Halloween candy and we're sending it overseas to the men and women who missed the tricks and treats with their friends and families this year. We welcome you to drop off any donations at my office in Lewisburg during regular office hours. Whether you choose to buy some candy, donate any leftovers you didn't hand out or raid your kids' goodie bags, we welcome any amount, large or small.

Speaking of Tooth Decay . . .

Free Fluoride Treatments

With all that Halloween candy about to be eaten, now's the perfect time to offer free fluoride treatments!

For a limited time, we will be offering free fluoride treatments with any hygiene visit to anyone who brings in Halloween candy. Simply come in for a cleaning and get an extra dose of prevention against decay. This offer is good for children and adults.

Why is Fluoride Important?

Fluoride is a natural mineral that protects and strengthens the teeth against cavities and usually occurs naturally in water.  However, the water in Lewisburg and many surrounding areas does not contain fluoride. That affects everyone, regardless of age.

Moreover, studies show that tooth decay in young children is on the rise. The most obvious reason for this increase in decay is that kids aren't getting enough fluoride and too many sweets. Just think of all the sugar in one juice box.

Considering this, fluoride treatment is more important than ever. At my practice, we believe that every patient, child and adult, should receive fluoride treatments twice a year.
